As I’ve been enjoying Wimbeldon this year, I’ve noticed one thing: the commentators don’t want to call Federer’s girlfriend his girlfriend. For some reason they are opposed to it. And instead they have come up with some other options:
1. partner
2. friend
3. companion
4. business manager (this one made me think they had broken up but maintained their business deal)
5. (and my personal favorite that they busted out for the championship match) long time lady friend
seriously, what’s the big deal about girlfriend? “long time lady friend” sounds to me like a hooker that federer has frequented for several years. is it that they’ve been together for so many years and NBC is bothered by the fact that there isn’t a more formal title for her? take a deep breath NBC because they may never get married and then what will you call her as the years go by?
since we’re talking of tennis, i hope lots of you watched the nadal/federer championship yesterday. it was so so so good! and i’m so so so glad that rafa nadal won. i love him and his man capri pants and his underwear problem and just everything about him. and he stopped federer’s 5 in a row streak at wimbeldon, so well done rafa! (i don’t want to embarass Brianne and Lisa, so i won’t mention that they both teared up a little bit when he won.)
