Okay, it’s been about 12 hours since Lisa and I (mostly lisa) put up my blackout drapes and they have already rocked my world.
I accidentally didn’t sleep at all Sunday night. Was restless so I left Lisa in my bed to enjoy her sleep and moved to the living room where I tossed and turned some more from couch to loveseat to chair and back to big couch and then Amber called (thanks for helping me pass the time-i love that amber is up late in the summers) and entertained me from 0330-0530 and then I watched some gh and then ate breakfast and read a large chunk of my book.
Needless to say, I needed a nap in the afternoon. So, into my newly darkened room I went. I laid down and didn’t even have to put my facemask (or eyepatch, whichever incorrect phrase I’m using on the day) on to enjoy a very nice, cool sleep. No more waking up because my face is baking in the puddle of sunlight streaming in through the window that the tree used to cover. Seriously, there never was a tree missed so much as the one behind my window.
So, perhaps this is goodbye to the face covered, full daylight sleeping. Instead I can sleep like a semi-normal person in my cave-like room. What a miracle thermal black out curtains are for night shift workers! It’s the trying to sleep in daylight problems I face as a night shift worker that make me wish I lived in John’s room in college. We called it “the cave” because there were no windows. No outside light whatsoever. And while we didn’t fully appreciate that in college, I sure would love to have a “cave” in my house now. Maybe it’s time to move back to Weatherford…Amber, get ready.
