This months issue of my mom’s magazine (tv mom, not real) showed me proof that she and I may actually be related. Rachael Ray says:

“Heat Waves-most of august you’ll find me complaining. Since I was a baby, the heat and I-well, we’ve been like oil and water. How weather makes me fussy. The summer for me is full of bug bites, bad-hair days, sweat rolling down my back, rumpled clothes and air so heavy you have to shovel it into your lungs.”

That is exactly how I feel about summer in New York. It’s Meghan’s favorite time of year and it makes me want to investigate the possibility of human hibernation. Seriously with the humidity? When the water in the air is so extreme that I cannot straighten my hair in the months of June, July and August, that’s a problem. And it’s not like I came to the city from a land that is a stranger to hot weather. It’s downright toasty in Oklahoma for many months of the year and I used to be a catcher and would tough it out all summer long in full-on catchers gear, so I’m not exaclty a baby when it comes to heat. But this humidity thing is really too much for me to handle. I don’t like to have to work hard to breath. I like to inhale fresh, dry air. I know, I’m crazy like that!

I was glad to find out that my dislike of the humid summer’s here is one I share with my mom. If only I could find out how my tv dad, Hector Elizondo, feels about summer in NYC.

A special thanks to my mom for knowing that I recently bought an ice cream maker and including ice cream recipes in her issue this month. Looking forward to “white russian ice cream” (yes, as in the adult beverage) soon. Sounds good to me. Ice cream and alcohol? Sign me up!
