Steven Mark Genow. I won’t tell the people how old you are. Just that it’s greater than 50 and less than 52.

Several weeks ago I decided to get smart and finally organize all of my important papers and throw away the stuff I was keeping that was no longer necessary. During this highly organized process I could not find my most recent New York State Nursing License. I found my expired in 2006 Oklahoma License, but no NY at all. Not even the old one. The crappy thing about this, not that it’s not crappy in and of itself was that I had just had this one renewed and sent to me in the mail about a month before this search. So where did I put it? Did I accidentally throw it away? That was my fear and the conclusion that I came to and believed…until today…
I was looking for some notes I had made several months ago and decided to look through the bags I carried at the time. And what did I find in my old hospital tote bag? That’s right, my new nursing license. Along with my nursing license were other odd things. 6 playbills from broadways shows i saw last winter, a blank notebook i don’t remember buying, a USB that i guess is mine though i’ve never seen it and the notes i was looking for (okay, that last one is not so odd). This raises several questions:
1. why was the license in the bag in the first place?
2. did i take it with me to work one day?
3. did i put it in there on purpose as a storage option?
4. did i put all of these things in on purpose as a storage option?
5. if yes to above then why did i do that and why do i have no memory of it?
Alas, we may never know how this odd combination of missing items came to be. No matter. The important thing is that I am a nurse and can prove it. Always important, I think. Yeah for the unexpected discovery of my presumed lost forever nursing license! Hip Hip Hooray!
Please take a moment to admire the lovely hair the Genow sisters are sporting in the photo below.
