While having long been a fan of Netflix and it’s many wonders, it wasn’t until today that I fully apprecicated what Netflix can do for me. On Saturday, I returned Thoroughlly Modern Millie in the mail and requested Jurassic Park since I was so desperately yearning for it after our dinosaur show. And what was waiting for me in the mailbox when I checked it on my way to work today?  Jurassic Park!

How do they do it so fast? The return address says “nearest Netflix shipping facility” and I’m starting to wonder if that is on my same block. How else could they get me my movie in such a speedy fashion? It’s a movie shipping miracle! It’s been 7 hours since I removed it from my mailbox and I’ve already watched it and sealed it back into the envelope for it’s happy return home. Below is my favorite scene of the movie when the T-Rex roars at the end and the banner saying “when dinosaurs ruled the earth” falls down around him. Very symbolic, Mr. Speilberg.

I must say, Jurassic Park was just as great as I remembered it. Seriously, an action movie with dinosaurs. Thats the best combination of two great things ever! Well, maybe not ever, but I think it deserves consideration along with the other greats- Peanut Butter and Jelly; Samwise and Mr. Frodo; Vodka and anything else.

During my viewing, I was reminded of how often Kyle (the brother, or “the Beave” to Autumn) used to watch this movie. When he was little (I’m talking preschool and kindergarten) he used to wake up every morning and watch Jurassic Park. Yes, my  4 year old brother started his day with a nice dose of dinosaur violence. He had favorite parts and favorite lines (“Lex, you’re choking me”) and even favorite sounds. There is a part where a brontosaurus stands on it’s hind legs to reach up to eat some leaves and then falls back on it’s front legs making a loud boom. During this boom, young kyle used to put his ear next to the speaker on the tv to enjoy it at its full volume. To this day I’m not sure why, but it did bring a smile to my face today and cause me to turn up that part to enjoy this noise in Kyle’s honor. Then I got a little weirded out when I remembered that my four year old Jurassic Park-loving little brother starts his senior year of high school in 8 days. AHHH!
