Meghan! Meghan’s rockin’ it Cape Cod style right now, but will back next week. Worry not, we’re having a party for her later in the month. But for now, happy absentee birthday, Poops!
This is Meghan will all her presents from me and Lisa last year.

This is a picture from her birthday extravaganza in 2006 when we saw The Wedding Singer Musical on Broadway, at lunch at Dave and Busters, saw The Color Purple Musical on Broadway and ate dinner at Dip (all fondue all the time). These are the bracelets we won with our tickets from gaming at D&B which we then proudly sported in the front row of The Color Purple. Good times were had by all.
Let’s take a moment to further discuss the “children’s” book I started reading last night. I will list below the reasons I don’t think it should be a childrens book:
1. It’s called “the house of the scorpion”
2. It’s about clones!
3. this is the description off the back of the book: “Matteo Alacran was not born; he was harvested. His DNA came from El Patron, lord of a country called Opium-a strip of poppy fields lying between the United States and what was once called Mexico. Matt’s first cell split and divided inside a petri dish. Then he was placed in the womb of a cow, where he continued the miraculous journey from embryo to fetus to baby. He is a boy now, but most consider him a monster-except for El Patron. El Patron loves Matt as he loves himself, because Matt is himself. “
What? That’s scary stuff for kids. And this won the Newbery Honor? The Newbery Honor for best book for children in Juvenile Detention Centers?
With that said, I am very much enjoying this book so far. And, I think I may be learning a little something and might accidentally end up a better person. I hate when that happens. Maybe that’s why it won the Newbery Honor.
I’ll let you know how it works out. But, it might take me a while longer to read this book than normal given the OLYMPICS! I’m not sure than I’ll have one minute to spare for reading. What if I was reading and missed a new rhythmic gymnastics move? I shudder to think it!
