Just another reason to love Moaning Myrtle (my iphone): she helps me sleep

That’s right! You can download (for free) an application on the ole iphone that is like one of those sleep sound maker thingies from Sharper Image (decidedly not free). It has over 50 sounds to choose from that you can play while you are sleeping. You can even set a timer! What? Life is good with this application. I would like to say that I have explored the many options availble to me and have now chosen a favorite. The truth is that I explored two of the sounds available to me and have chosen a favorite. It was a close call but “rain with thunders” beat out “rain”.

There are many interesting choices that perhaps (but probably not) I will one day listen to. These include “volcano erupting”, “ferry fog horn”, “aliens” and “movie”. There are also things like “contemplative 1″ and “contemplative 2″ which I find funny. Perhaps I should listen to them all one day when I am bored. Something to think on.

Let me tell you how this has greatly improved my world. Now that the kids are back at the school next door and screaming like they do on the playground three times a day (grr!) it gets pretty loud in my room when I am trying to sleep during the day. And now that summer is over and there is no need for a fan there is nothing to block out any of the annoying child noise. Enter the sleep application. I turn it on, put on my “rain with thunders” and happily drift off to sleep to the sounds of my childhood instead of the sounds of other peoples childhoods. It’s nice!

I also like that I am able to fall asleep to something that would keep other people awake. All the time Meghan will say “did you hear that storm last night?” when there has been an actual storm and I always have to say “no, slept like a baby”. I think it’s from growing up in the middle of tornado alley that has made me immune to the keeping awake properties of thunder and rain and lightning and trees falling over. I personally think that there is nothing better than a thunderstorm to fall asleep to. Okay, Saturday afternoon football commentary on a boring game and also baseball commentary are two pretty good things as well. If only there were old Michigan games I could listen to while falling asleep. That would be spectacular. And perhaps in my sleep I’d pick up obscure football stats from the 1950’s. I am sure that would come in handy as well. I’ll look into it.

Happy sleeping to you all!
