Okay all…one thing that happens here in New York that doesn’t happen anywhere else is that you often see a celebrity walking down the street. While this can be cool if you can instantly identify the celeb, it’s frustrating as hell when you cannot. You just have to try and figure out what they are from or hope to see the tv show or movie they are in sometime soon. This can plague you for months as it eats away slowly at the back of your mind. It’s not like you can scan the image from your brain into IMDB and figure out who it is.

The point of this story is that this happened to me yesterday. And rather than keep the mystery celeb to myself, I told Amber about him. Somehow through the magic of our crazy frienship, she knew who I was talking about based on the worlds most vague description, “Indian man that looks kinda like that guy on Lost but isn’t”. Yep, that’s all she got. So, we talk about what we think he’s in. I tell her I can picture him in scrubs and she says he looks like the crazy lyric writer guy in Music and Lyrics but knows its not him. The funny thing about that is that I see that guy all the time. He and I go to the same movies. I see him so often that when I see him I forget that he is an actor and that I don’t really know him. But, I digress…

  (not my mystery celeb)

Okay, so after we determine that it is not the guy shown above that I see movies with, we decided to call it a day and hope for the best. Flash forward to right now, 0300 and I was searching desperately for the guy we are actually talking about. I search on all medically related shows. House, ER, Grays Anatomy, Scrubs. All to no avail. So, then in an attempt to remind myself of what he doesn’t look like I search Music and Lyrics. At which point I notice that the guy I saw IS in Music and Lyrics. He plays the doorman/front desk guy that they run the lyrics by all the time. So, Amber was right, we were just thinking of the wrong guy! I was so excited by this that I almost called her, but decided it would be better for her sleep and her liking of me if I didn’t wake her up at this hour to announce this. Also, how much fun for her to read this very entry tomorrow when she wakes up and learn just how close we came! It’s like that time we tried to come up with Smashmouth for weeks and weeks on end! So, for the rest of you, the guy I walked by on the street last night is below. And, just to vindicate my seeing him in scrubs in my head, he was on ER. Yes! Neither of us are as crazy as we thought! Always good news! For the rest of you, Aasif Mandvi is also on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as a correspondant and is the consumate New York actor as he has been on all of the Law and Orders at least once.

 (my mystery celebrity)

While this boggled my mind for several hours today, it’s not as bad as the 2 months it took me to figure out that I saw Harvey Keitel in the park last summer! (see July 31st entry. or, as i just learned when looking for this entry, you can search my blog by typing the word harvey into the search box on the right. handy, wordpress, handy!)

As Meghan and I are about to start our third year in this apartment, we have become well acquainted with some of it’s many quirks. The shower that gets colder when you turn the cold water towards the off position; the spot in the hardwood floor near the kitchen that catches on your socks if you step on it; the bathroom door that traps people inside it at will.

While I find all of these little quirks funny and iteresting, there is one that I find particular bothersome at this time of year. Our apartment is always significantly cooler inside that it is outside. Now, while this is downright handy and money saving in the summer, it’s bone chilling in the fall and winter. Right now, I have on layers and am sitting closer to a space heater than one should and am still really really cold. And it’s only October! This does not bode well for the rest of the year. So just remember to pack layers if you ever visit in the winter.

Moving on…last night Zak and I went to see Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. It was great! And the soundtrack which we have both already downloaded is great as well. Who can ask for anything more in a movie?

In other unrelated news. Friday night I faxed my application for my absentee ballot to Cleveland County, Oklahoma. And to my great delight and astonishment, what arrived in the mail today? Yes, my absentee ballot? Can you believe it? Way to be amazing efficient, Cleveland County!
