So, I’m back to reading with a vengence. This week I read a book by a  paramedic from Harlem called Black Flies. It’s fiction, but pretty real. As I was reading and loving this book I was wondering what non-medical people would think. If perhaps it would seem graphic to them or if they wouldn’t believe some of the crazy situations described. Being that the people I see here the most are also nurses, it’s hard to have much of a perspective on what you normals might think about things.

For example, Lisa and I saw The Day the Earth Stood Still and they were talking about whether or not you could start an IV on an alien and Lisa and I thought this was hilarious, but no one else in the theatre laughed. We found it so funny that we talked about it after the film as if it was a major part. Anyway, maybe the lesson here is to get some non-medical friends. And now with Amber in nursing school, I’ll be gaining yet another medical friend. Oh dear, I need to get to know some teachers and lawyers and advertisers. I’ll let you know how that goes in the new year.
