Today I decided to peruse our new renter’s insurance policy that was sent to us a few weeks ago and I must admit, I found it quite informative and quite funny. For example, the following events are covered:

1. fire damage

2. lightning damage

3. riots that cause damage

4. volcanic eruptions

5. artificial electrical impulses (I don’t know what this is but it sounds like an EMP-you know the button they push in the matrix to shut down everything electric in the area. Uh, I hope this isn’t something Meghan and I have to worry about, but I guess it’s good to know that it’s covered.)

But, the following are NOT covered:

1. damage from war

2. earthquake damage that is not from a fire or explosion

I like that they will cover damage from a riot, but wars, civil and otherwise (yes, they specified) are not covered. Good to know. I must say that Meghan and I learned a lot about what to look for and what to be prepared for.

The only sad thing about the policy is that it does not cover the replacement cost of pets. So, should Lady perish in a riot, war or artificial electrical impulse, that would be it for her. We would not have the money to replace her. I must say that I find this to be a bit of a crock because they will cover the cost to replace plants and trees but not pets? What? Does PETA know about this?
