Let me paint you a picture of my attempt to sleep yesterday. I come home from work round about 7:30 am and after I take off my coat, I realize that it’s frackin’ cold and chillier inside than it is outside. So, I attempt to power through. I put on my jammies and get into bed. Mistake. Still ridiculously cold. So, I take my cold arm outside of the covers and feel the radiator and discover that it’s not on. That’s right, no heat. 30 something degree temperatures outside and no heat on in the casa. AHHH!
(no, it wasn’t snowing, but this is how cold I was)
So, I get out of the cold covers, add two blankets to the bed and put on a fleece jacket and a pair of wooly socks. Then I try to go to sleep but can’t due to the chattering teeth. So, I get up and get the space heater out of the living room and crank it on high and point it at me and then, finally, get to go to sleep.
And it didn’t warm up in my room until around noon when I was finally able to take off my fleece jacket. Yeah! And what else did I discover at noon? That the heater was back on!
The thing is, on my way home in the morning, I wasn’t that cold. I had a light coat, a scarf and gloves and wasn’t freezing. But I come inside and nearly freeze to death? I know, it sounds strange but it’s all part of the temperature funk that happens in our apartment. It’s always colder in here than it is outside. Which makes it awesome in the summer and crappin’ cold in the winter. I don’t know what it is about the location of our apartment but we don’t even need an air conditioner in the summer to combat the 90+ degree humidity but if it’s 30 degrees outside in the winter, I swear it’s 30 or less in here.

yesterday definitely won the cold award in our apt…if there was such an award
i woke up and opened my bedroom door to the living room and immediately closed it. i on the other hand i did have some heat in my room and the sun helped to keep my room bearable. it may also have helped that i broke out my down comforter again and was using that plus my down blanket plus my bed quilt to keep my warm…what was with that?! i even did some yoga in my semi warm room to try and get warm. i think part of the reason that it was so cold and stayed so cold was because there were movers moving people in to an upstairs apt and they proped the outside doors open letting all the cold air rush up the stairs to our apt. ugh! anyway i’m glad it warmed up and is now bearably cold again. man i can’t wait for spring and summer!!
ps: also can’t wait for march when i can actually see and hang out with my roommate (sorry amber…flatmate) again. miss you friend!

a good old fashioned heating pad helps too! of course there’s always the danger of catching on fire, but look at the bright side; then you’d be REALLY warm. =)
