Continuing our gastric tour of Switzerland, come with us to the capital city of Bern. While in Bern, Zak and I met Mr. Pelham who recommended a lunch restaurant to us just down the block. We hurried right on over and ate this:

It tasted just about as good as it looks, which is not at all. This was our only meal “bust” of the whole trip and I must say after Mr. Pelham’s recommendation, we were a little shocked and bummed that this is how it all turned out. (sidenote-they did have an awesome grapefruit beer!) Imagine the bittersweet feelings that occurred when we walked back down this same street later to discover this:

The restaurant on the right is the one we went into and didn’t like. The restaurant on the left is the one that was recommended to us. This did go a long way to restoring Mr. Pelham’s place in our hearts. Oops. I’d like to say that we went to the right restaurant for dinner, but we were in another town for dinner, so whether or not this food would have been good is still a mystery. Only Zak and I would do this. What can you do?

For dinner, we were back in our home base in Switzerland, Lucerne. Taking the advice of Mr. Pelham we tried out the food of many other cultures. He told us that since they have no culture of their own, they cook a lot of food from other cultures and it’s pretty good. So, we went to a Mexican restaurant called Pacifico.

We were certainly a little hesitant of Mexican food in a place so far removed from Mexico and were happily shocked to love everything we ate. We ate these lovely fajitas.

And enjoyed the many dipping sauces for our chips, including the mole.

What we enjoyed the most, however was the pina colada’s made with jack daniels. Not your usual combination and we didn’t expect to like it but really, really did. Liked it so much that we asked the bartender at a bar we went to the next day to make us some. I know it sounds gross, but you should really try it. It takes a light and girly drink and makes it into something much more respectable and delicious.
